Demo: Design in Motion Festival
Studio Dumbar’s Demo Festival is the largest motion design festival in the world. I've submitted videos to the last two Demo festivals (2025–2027). Below are all the videos I've submitted, including successes and failures.
Demo 2027 is themed 'The Bright Side,' with special attention to motion works exploring hope. Of the five videos I submitted this year, three are from this set called "Seeing Flowers", inspired by the famous Matisse quote "There are always flowers for those who want to see them".
Selections aren't announced yet, but I'm hoping something makes the cut for the festival next January.

On the morning of submission, the bedroom blind blowing in the wind, inspired a simple idea as it created interesting light gradients on the wall. I liked this simplicity, so the remaining two of my five submissions came from this set.

For Demo 2025, out of nearly 2000 designers and 5400 motion pieces submitted, I was chuffed to make the cut of 360 featured designers. Of my five submissions below, one was selected.
Skew Bounce
This is the video that featured in Demo 2025. It was inspired by a sketch I saw on Instagram by @omran_mezher. I tried to personify the shapes movement.

Fuel emissions
When I first heard one of my videos was selected, I actually assumed this was it. Shout-out here to a friend of mine, Kris Stirna. Honestly, my favourite design decisions in this project are Kris's suggestions.
False Depth
A happy accident when playing with the shapes created when a line rotates around an endpoint while travelling around the path of a circle. The silly shit that I can spend hours with.
Stadium lights
Inspired by the light show in Stade de France rugby stadium before a world cup game.
Perspective grid
I don’t remember what triggered this one, but I know I made it about an hour before the deadline to submit my videos. I think I just wanted to play with the (new at the time) 2.5d features in Cavalry.
